Helpful tips on applying SPECTRA heat applied materials

1. Preheat Your Garment
Before heat applying SPECTRA™ heat transfer materials, it is important to preheat your garment. Preheating eliminates moisture and wrinkles in the fabric that would otherwise interfere with proper application.

2. Conduct a Test Cut
It is important to run a test cut before cutting your entire design. By doing so, you can adjust the cutter settings so that the corners and points in your designs are crisp. Additionally, running a small test cut checks your blade depth. This will prevent cutting all the way through SPECTRA™ heat transfer material and wasting material.

3. Check Blade Depth
If you experience difficulty removing a SPECTRA™ product's Mylar backing after heat applying, check your blade depth. If the blade cuts too deeply into the Mylar, there is a chance that the adhesive will seep into the cuts and prevent the Mylar from easily peeling.

4. Cut in Reverse
When using SPECTRA™ heat transfer materials, cut designs in the reverse/mirror image format. Since the adhesive side faces out, you will heat apply with the Mylar backing facing up. This Mylar covers the design so that the heat press platen does not directly touch and ruin the SPECTRA™ transfer material.

5. Use a Weeder
Before heat application, excess SPECTRA™ material needs cleared away from your design. Using a weeder is the easiest way to do this. Weeders are great for removing small and large pieces of SPECTRA™.

6. Peel Cold
After heat application, SPECTRA™ heat transfer materials should always be peeled cold to ensure a properly applied design. Peeling at any other temperature may cause the design to lift off the garment and lose its long run durability.
